“The Engineering & History of Stephenson's 'Rocket'” |
|
In 1999, the speakers undertook, for the Science Museum/National Railway Museum, a comprehensive survey of 'Rocket'. They stripped it down, examined every component to understand its material, method of manufacture and fitting, and established whether it was original, or from its several modifications/re-buildings. The work was accompanied by comprehensive archival research to establish 'Rocket's' history, including her several accidents. Visual aids needed: Screen (advise if unavailable). Speakers will travel any distance from Altrincham & Hyde, Cheshire, by arrangement. Fee £50 + expenses, + 2 beds accommodation if too far to return home same day. |
