“Eighteenth century steam engines” (several talks) |
|
David Hulse is a well-known as a builder of models of early steam engines, and as a writer on their history. His introductory first talk would usually be about the development of the world’s first commercial steam engine of 1712 by Thomas Newcomen. Each of the available talks covers a different engine, based on the speaker’s model of it. Clubs can see the engines concerned by visiting his web site. |

Requirements: none, speaker will provide all necessary items, including a printed leaflet summarising the subject. |

Speaker will travel up to 90 miles from Stone (Staffs) without an overnight stay. Further distances requiring overnight stay, by arrangement. |
|
Fee: £50 for a single day, £60 if overnight, plus petrol costs, plus accommodation if needed. |

"The Schwebebahn of Wuppertal” |
|
|
|
The "Schwebebahn" (suspended railway) which is 100 years old in 2001 runs over the River Wupper in the town of Wuppertal, NE Germany. The talk covers the history of this unique hanging monorail and lasts 75mins. After questions the evening concludes with a 15min home video of a trip on the railway shot in 1999. A small illustrated booklet on the history is available at 50p which charge covers the cost of production. |
